What is an HRA?

A Health Reimbursement arrangement, or an HRA as it is more commonly known, is an employer sponsored benefit designed to reimburse participants for out of pocket medical expenses.  Typical expenses include health insurance deductibles, co-pays, co-insurance, and prescription drug costs.  Recently, Health Reimbursement Arrangements have been offered in combination with High Deductible Health Plans.

Your Employer will set the plan parameters each plan year, including the maximum annual reimbursement amount.  The HRA Account is fully funded by the employer; employee contributions are prohibited.

Depending upon your plan design, funds are available to reimburse expenses incurred by you, your spouse, and your dependents.  Your Employer will determine what items are eligible for reimbursement from the HRA program.  All HRA reimbursements are made tax-free to the participant when an expense is a qualified medical expense.

Participants receive reimbursement from their HRA account by either using their CareFlex Express Benefits Card or by submitting a Manual Request for Reimbursement (see the Download Forms drop down menu at the top right of the page).

For detailed information on your Health Reimbursement program, please review your Summary Plan Description.
